The J/109 fleet braved the cold northerly breeze which greeted them on Sunday for the second half of the Garmin Hamble Winter Series 2009. The course was set from Ryde Middle up to Fastnet Insurance, which saw Beth (Guy Knight) lead from Offbeat (David McLeman), J-Dream (David & Kirsty Apthorp), Outrajeous (Richard & Valerie Griffith) and Aria (Luca Rubinelli), who had recovered from a less than perfect start.  A tight reach to Gales HSB caught out most of the fleet, with only J-Dream hoisting a reaching kite.  The rest of the fleet chose to either white sail or to hoist their running kites.  Outrajeous moved up to second, as she dropped her spinnaker early and white sailed to the buoy.  The rest of the course was a series of beats and runs cascading to the east and saw J-Dream extend her lead to secure another win in the series.  Aria had an excellent second beat which saw her pass Outrajeous.  Meanwhile Offbeat, Beth and Jumping Jellyfish (David Richards) were tussling for fourth with Offbeat taking the place on the water only to have a 10% penalty which dropped her to 6th.  Beth pipped Jumping Jellyfish across the line by one second to finish 5th.

Results:

1st – J-Dream (David & Kirsty Apthorp)

2nd – Aria (Luca Rubinelli)

3rd – Outrajeous (Richard & Valerie Griffith)
